WORKBOOK installation and documentary in progress at Flashpoint.
WORKBOOK is a video documenting the installation and creation of an exhibition of the same name by Kate McGraw and Ann Tarantino at the not-for-profit Gallery at Flashpoint in Washington, DC. Financial support for the production of the video will be provided by the sale of prints hand-marked and stamped by the artists.
The video, shot by artist & professional videographer Franciska
Farkas, documents the ten days the artists spent creating the wall
drawing. It records the artists' physical and creative work, using
techniques both planned and improvised, as they engage in a mark-making
exchange running the entire length of the gallery walls. The final,
mammoth artwork stretches across the gallery like a book waiting to be
read and experienced by the audience.
The documentary film is projected on the wall near the exhibition
entrance, and serves as an intimate record of the artistic process.
WORKBOOK gives viewers insight into the process of creation, making
public the most intimate of moments between collaborators-hidden
gestures, unscripted moments, silent contemplation, discussion,
agreement, disagreement, defeat and celebration. In the end, the video
will remain the only evidence of Workbook as an installation, after the
gallery walls are painted over, transforming once again into blank
surfaces.
