The building:
Located in South Baltimore/Federal Hill; 5 blocks from the Cross Street Market. The building was one of the first 5 free public libraries in the United States which opened in 1886. Since February 2008, it has been utilized as one of the top artist live/work spaces in Baltimore. One third of the space functions as private, individual bedrooms/studios while the main front space (1000 sq ft w/ 25’ vaulted ceilings) is used as communal living space, an art gallery and video lounge, as well as a yoga studio. The former director’s office has been converted into a shared “reading room” with working fireplace and a rear door that opens to a fenced in back yard with an elevated deck. Huge kitchen with stainless steel appliances. 1 full bath. Huge unfinished but very cool basement for storage / work space.

The room:
10’ x 25’ with 14’ ceilings. The room has 4 windows facing south east so there is great morning light. Because of the high ceilings a sleeping loft can easily be built to add even more floor space / storage.

The new roommate(s):
The ideal roommate is someone in a creative profession such as design, illustration, video, graphics/animation, studio art, photography, education, exhibition design, writing/journalism, arts administration, and so on.
However we are also open to other professions as well as grad students but prefer someone with a strong interest in yoga, contemporary art, design, dance, etc.

Please be drug free and capable of paying you bills. We prefer a roommate that is sociable and enjoys communal living; cooperative but also self sufficient, motivated, and who cleans up behind themselves.

We are also very open to a couple sharing the space to help offset the cost of living. Pets will be considered as long as they are house broken, get along with our 10 yr old Great Dane and don’t destroy the place. Riverside Park and a great veterinarian are just a few blocks away.

The perks:
This is an amazing space to live creatively, generate ideas, bring clients to, practice yoga, and to promote balance and mindfulness. Art related events occur every few months and yoga classes are on a weekly schedule 1-3 evenings per week. We are also interested in occasionally using the space for fundraisers, lectures, and performances. While we do seek to take advantage of the unique opportunity this space provides we are also very aware of maintaining a warm and quite home to relax and unwind in after work and on the weekends.
